KIM AGNEW

Kim Agnew Dancer, percussionist, artist, and educator Kim Agnew has studied under the tutelage of Cuban and West African masters since 1990. She has performed with various world music groups, such as the Slaptones and Pangea. Kim is currently dancer, choreographer, and percussionist in ALBINO!, a 9-piece touring Afrobeat ensemble. Kim’s extensive teaching roster includes the Marin Ballet, S.F. Ballet’s outreach programs, Cazadero Performing Arts Camp, and many other institutions in the Bay Area. Kim credits her lifetime of teachers for the deep desire to share and give back everything they have so generously given to her.

VIOLET ANGELL

Violet Angell Violet Angell began drumming with Ghanaian master drummer S. Kwaku Daddy in 1997 and has devoted her life to the study, performance, and composition of music. She has toured with numerous bands throughout the United States and Europe, and has performed with David Byrne, Michael Franti, Antibalas and George Clinton. Violet loves sharing the joy of music through teaching and performing.  She especially enjoys DRUMMM events because they make music accessible to everyone.

ELAN CHERTOCK

Elan Chertock Elan Chertock plays and teaches many types of percussion, including drum set, dundun, djembe, dumbek, and more. His musical styles include rock, jazz, West African, Brazilian, & Middle Eastern. Elan has enjoyed extensive world travel for over 20 years, always in search of hearing and learning different styles of percussion music, including travels to Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe, and South and Central America. Elan always keeps the beat steady with DRUMMM!

SUSAN JETTE

Susan Jette Susan Jette, MT-BC is a board certified music therapist with over 20 years experience facilitating drum circles in therapeutic and community settings. She is also a professional percussionist with a broad array of styles and fortes. She is currently a member of the Santa Rosa and Napa Symphony Orchestras, Shodan Taiko, and the band Birds of Play. She has played with D'Cuckoo, Gamelan Sekar Jaya, Gamelan X, the Women's Philharmonic and Napa Valley Musical Theater. She believes strongly in the value of using music & rhythm to heal people and strengthen communities.

YARI MANDER

Yari Mander Yari Mander has been a professional musician and music educator for over 15 years. He is influenced by Orff-Schulwerk’s somatic approach to music education, and his studies of African musical pedagogy in Ghana, West Africa. Skillful with many instruments, Yari has performed with Keith Terry, Reverend Michael Beckwith, Rickie Byers-Beckwith, Agape Choir, Chochmat HaLev band, Joan Baez, Maracatu Luta, One World Music, and Gamelan X. He joined the DRUMMM Team in 2009 as a facilitator and supporting musician.

CRAIG MILLER

Craig Miller Craig Miller is a multi-talented drummer and percussionist who’s been playing non-stop since the age of 12. After studying salsa and Afro-Colombian rhythms in Columbia for two years, Craig came to San Francisco to start his own original multi-rhythmic band, Antioquia. Here he answered the call of the West African rhythms, adding djembe, dununs, and balifone to his already extensive repertoire. When not playing with DRUMMM and touring with Antioquia, Craig drums with Zimbabwean drum/dance ensemble Chinyakare and traditional Colombian band Aluna.

MAHSA MODARRES

Mahsa Modarres A force to be reckoned with on the West African dunun (bass drums) and Japanese Taiko drums, Mahsa Modarres keeps the beat alive and kicking while DRUMMM participants find their groove. A recent transplant to the Bay Area from Chicago, Mahsa has performed with legendary drum troupes Kaiju Daiko, Groove Ova, and at hundreds of DRUMMM events throughout the Midwest and West Coast since 2000.

ADLEY PENNER

Adley Penner A multi-talented musician, Adley Penner specializes in Afro-Colombian drumming. He lived in Colombia for two years and studied with the maestro Juan Rafael of Medellin. Adley has been bringing his special flavor of rhythms and playful energy to the DRUMMM team since 2006. He currently resides in the Bay Area where he performs and tours the U.S. with his two bands, Antioquia and Aluna. 

CARRIE STALIER

Carrie Stalier Carrie Stalier discovered she was a drummer when she started banging on pots and pans as a child.  She began playing djembe and eventually immersed herself in the study of West African drumming, dance and culture in the United States, Guinea and Mali. Carrie has performed as a drummer and dancer with renowned ensembles Percussion de Kissidougou, Kunu Kissi, and Lahydhi. Coordinating, facilitating, and choreographing drum and dance events since 1999 nationally and abroad, Carrie brings passion and exuberance to the DRUMMM team.
